# Creating and closing team cards

Payhawk team cards are corporate cards linked to a shared limit so that their cardholders can use the money within that shared limit for its intended purpose.

When creating a team card, that is, assigning a shared limit to two or more employees, you can either link existing cards to that team card or issue new cards to the required employees.

> - Payhawk team cards have [stand-alone limits](/help/overview-of-cards-card-limits-and-advanced-card-controls-for-administrators) and cannot be included in an existing [company spend policy](/help/overview-of-spend-policies).
> - All cards that are linked to a team card in Payhawk are only visible from the team card they belong to.

## Creating team cards and linking existing employees' cards

To create a team card and link existing cards to it:

1. Log in to the [Payhawk Web Portal](https://portal.payhawk.com).
2. Open the app switcher in the top-left corner and go to **Cards** > **Team cards**.
3. Click on the **+ New** button.
4. In the dialog that opens:
  1. Name the card.
  2. Select the currency.
  3. Set the recurring monthly limit (shared limit).
5. Under the **Linked cards** section:
  1. Select the **Link existing cards** option.
  2. From the drop-down menu, select the required existing cards of the employees who will share the limit of the team card.
6. Click on **Create team card** to confirm your choice.

## Creating team cards and linking newly-issued employees' cards

To create a team card and issue new cards that will be lined to the shared limit:

1. Open the app switcher in the top-left corner and go to **Cards** > **Team cards**.
2. Click on the **+ New** button.
3. In the dialog that opens:
  1. Name the card.
  2. Select the currency.
  3. Set the recurring monthly limit (shared limit).
4. Under the **Linked cards** section:
  1. Select the **Issue new cards** option.
  2. From the drop-down menu, select the employees for whom you will issue new cards that will be linked to this team card.
  3. Against each selected employee, select whether the card will be physical by switching on the toggle button. The toggle button is switched off by default.
  4. If you have opted for physical cards, the switched-on toggle button will automatically load your company address for card delivery. If you want the cards to be delivered to another location, switch off the toggle and fill in the required post data.
5. Click on **Create team card** to confirm your choice.

## Closing team cards

When a shared limit is no longer needed or there's another reason for you to want to deactivate a team card, you can close it.

> Closing a team card without unassigning its linked cards will also close those cards.

1. Open the app switcher in the top-left corner and go to **Cards** > **Team cards**.
2. Select the desired team card by clicking on it.
3. Click on the three dots menu and select the **Close team card** option.
4. In the dialog that opens, check the confirmation checkbox.
5. Click on **Close** to confirm your choice.
