When you connect to your Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance organization for the first time, Payhawk automatically pulls the available chart of accounts. Later, you can manually update them at any time. To synchronize your categories from Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance with the corresponding Payhawk categories, follow these steps: 1. [Connect Payhawk to Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance](/help/connecting-payhawk-to-microsoft-dynamics-365-finance). 2. In the [Payhawk Web Portal](https://portal.payhawk.com), go to **Settings** > **Fields library**. 3. Click on **Category**. 4. Click on the **Update from MS Dynamics Finance & Operations** button. ![Category page in the Payhawk Fields library showing the Update from MS Dynamics Finance & Operations button](https://cdn.payhawk.com/Adm%3AIntegrations%3AMS%20Dynamics/d365fo_category_update_from_d365fo_20260821_ai.png) 5. Depending on the setup you've selected, you'll either have to map to an expense category or to a General Ledger. Map your existing Payhawk categories with the corresponding Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance chart of accounts by clicking on the desired category. In the panel that opens, modify the information and click on **Save**. ![Category panel for Advertising & Marketing with the Name, Parent category, Account code and Tax rate fields.](https://cdn.payhawk.com/Adm%3AIntegrations%3AD365FO/Mapping_Payhawk_categories_to_the_Microsoft_Dynamics_365_Finance_chart_of_accounts_2_20261016_ai.png) - To delete a category, select the checkbox next to it and, in the panel that opens, click on **Delete**. Select **I understand this action cannot be undone** and click on **Confirm**. ![Category list with Advertising & Marketing selected and the Delete one value panel open.](https://cdn.payhawk.com/Adm%3AIntegrations%3AD365FO/Mapping_Payhawk_categories_to_the_Microsoft_Dynamics_365_Finance_chart_of_accounts_3_20261016_ai.png) - To create a new category, click on **Add category**. Enter the details and click on **Save**. To create a sub-category, select its parent category in the **Parent category** field. The default VAT rates for these newly created categories will be updated in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance. ![New category panel with the Name, Parent category, Account code and Tax rate fields next to the Category list.](https://cdn.payhawk.com/Adm%3AIntegrations%3AD365FO/Mapping_Payhawk_categories_to_the_Microsoft_Dynamics_365_Finance_chart_of_accounts_4_20261016_ai.png) ## Next steps - [Exporting expenses to Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance](/help/exporting-expenses-and-payments-to-microsoft-dynamics-365-finance)
