Please unlock it in SAP S/4HANA in order to make changes. ## Error message ```plaintext The selected WBS element xxx is currently locked in SAP S/4HANA. Please unlock it in SAP S/4HANA in order to make changes. ``` ## Affected ERP integrations - SAP S/4HANA® ## Cause When exporting an expense, you may encounter an error indicating that the selected WBS element is currently locked. In SAP S/4HANA, a **WBS (Work Breakdown Structure)** element is a specific component of an Enterprise Project used to monitor and manage project costs. When a project is paused, completed, or undergoing administrative reviews, an administrator might assign it the system status **LKD** (Locked). While this lock is active, SAP S/4HANA strictly blocks any new expenses or financial transactions from being posted against it. ## Solution Before modifying anything in SAP, double-check how the expense is coded in Payhawk: 1. In the [Payhawk Web Portal](https://portal.payhawk.com), go to **Spend**. 2. Open the affected expense and look at the **Project** or **WBS Element** field. 3. Verify that the correct project code was selected. If the expense was mistakenly tagged to an old or closed project, update it with the active project code. If the WBS element is correct, a project manager or system administrator will need to lift the lock within SAP S/4HANA before the expense can be processed. ### SAP S/4HANA Public Cloud Edition To resolve the issue in SAP S/4HANA Public Cloud Edition: 1. Log into your SAP Fiori launchpad and open the **Project Control** or **Manage Enterprise Projects** app. 2. Search for the Project or WBS Element ID listed in the error message. 3. Select the project and locate the status management section. 4. Change the status to remove the **Locked** restriction, ensuring it returns to an active status like **Released**. 5. Save your changes. ### SAP S/4HANA Private Cloud Edition To resolve the issue in SAP S/4HANA Private Cloud Edition: 1. Go to transaction code `CJ20N` (Project Builder). 2. Locate and open the project structure containing the affected WBS element. 3. Click on the specific WBS element in the hierarchy tree. 4. In the top menu, go to **Edit** > **Status** > **Locked** and choose **Undo** or click the status information icon next to System Status and remove the **LKD** lock. 5. Click **Save** to apply the changes. ### Next steps Once the WBS element has been unlocked in SAP S/4HANA, go back to Payhawk and follow the steps: 1. Log in to the [Payhawk Web Portal](https://portal.payhawk.com). 2. Go to **Spend**. 3. Locate the pending expense and click **Review** to re-try the export.
