Payhawk overview for US-based companies

Prev Next

Payhawk is an AI-powered, all-in-one spend management platform that helps businesses gain full control over company spending. Through integrated corporate cards, automated invoice processing, expense management, and reimbursements, Payhawk centralizes and digitizes financial workflows. The platform supports multi-entity operations and enables real-time tracking, multi-currency transactions, and direct ERP integrations that automate reconciliation and reporting at scale.

Operating in multiple jurisdictions means Payhawk aligns with local regulatory, legal, and compliance requirements. Companies based in the US may experience slight variations in onboarding and product access compared to those in the UK or EEA - for example, during Know Your Customer (KYC) and Know Your Business (KYB) checks or when linking their corporate card transactions to Payhawk.

Use cases for US-based companies using Payhawk

US companies can use Payhawk in several flexible ways (both individually and in combination):

  • Applying for and managing credit lines and credit cards

  • Making bank payments from external accounts linked to Payhawk

  • Linking existing corporate cards to Payhawk

Applying for and utilizing credit

US-based companies can apply for a Payhawk credit line that, if approved, is accessible via corporate credit cards linked to the platform. This setup allows credit to be used seamlessly through cards linked within Payhawk or issued within the platform, such as American Express.

No. Cards are credit only.

You can top up your credit funds at any time. In this context, top-ups are an early credit repayment, which enables you to once again spend up to your full credit size. To top up funds, you need to initiate an ACH debit from your external bank account that is linked to Payhawk directly from the Funds app.

Top-ups are possible only up to the credit amount that has already been spent). Top-ups above the owed amount are not possible.

Making bank payments

To be able to use Payhawk’s accounts payable services, US companies must first undergo the standard KYC/KYB compliance review. Once approved, they can link external bank accounts to Payhawk to authorize and view all outgoing payments directly from the platform. This way, funds remain in the external bank account, while approval and visibility are centralized in Payhawk for real-time tracking and spend governance.

Linking corporate cards

US companies can link their existing American Express, Mastercard, or Visa corporate cards to Payhawk instead of replacing them. This option enables companies to continue using their preferred card provider while benefiting from Payhawk’s real-time spend tracking and automated transaction feeds. For instance, American Express Additional Card Members can be assigned and managed directly inside Payhawk.

Applying Payhawk’s card-linking capability does not generally require additional KYC/KYB checks beyond those completed with the card issuer. Using Payhawk exclusively for card spend provides access to its automated expense capture, approval flows, and powerful compliance tools.

If you don’t have any cards linked to Payhawk, you can apply for credit and order Payhawk cards once your application has been successfully approved.

About the help center content for the US

You are currently viewing this page as part of the Payhawk in the US collection of help articles. This collection features content specifically tailored for the US market, focusing on Payhawk’s products and solutions designed for local compliance, financial regulations, and operational practices. For example, Payhawk in the US includes detailed guidance on linked cards - a product developed exclusively for the US market. In contrast, companies operating in the UK and EEA issue native debit Payhawk cards directly from the system.

In general, the rest of the help center covers features and use cases common to all Payhawk markets unless otherwise specified (such as onboarding processes for Payhawk in the UK and EEA), or topics not directly related to US-specific functionality (like issuing physical cards).

That said, outside the Payhawk in the US collection, you may find additional information that applies to the US market but is included within the general help center. This structure helps maintain article logic and accessibility. Examples include global same-currency payments where USD is one of several supported currencies (alongside EUR and GBP), or American Express cards referenced collectively with other international card products. In such cases, related articles are cross-linked to ensure continuity across resources.
