This article provides the answers to some of the most frequently asked questions related to the gradual collection of ATM fees owned by Payhawk customers.
What is changing with Payhawk's ATM withdrawal fee collection?
While all customers have accepted the terms and conditions, which include ATM withdrawal fees, as part of their contracts, Payhawk has not collected these fees until now.
Therefore, Payhawk will begin gradually implementing the collection of the agreed-upon ATM withdrawal fees.
What cards are affected by the ATM withdrawal fee collection?
All physical (debit and credit) cards your company has issued with Payhawk.
What is the size of the ATM withdrawal fees?
The ATM withdrawal fees vary per currency and region where the card is issued. For more information, see the applicable card fees.
Where can I view the ATM withdrawal fees that I am being charged?
You can view the amount of the applied ATM withdrawal fee in the Payment section of the expense. For more information, see the article on viewing the applied ATM withdrawal fees.
Can I block ATM withdrawals for employees' cards?
Yes. ATM withdrawals are part of the advanced card controls and can be managed depending on whether the card has been assigned a spend policy or a standalone limit.
For physical cards with assigned spend policies, you can disable ATM withdrawals by adjusting the card controls for the respective spend policy.

For physical cards with assigned standalone limits, you can disable ATM withdrawals by modifying the individual advanced card controls.

Are there limits on how much cash can be withdrawn at ATMs?
Currently, there are no daily, weekly, or monthly ATM withdrawal limits set by Payhawk. However, you can define whether ATM withdrawals will be always allowed or only allowed upon a request submitted by the cardholders under the respective spend policy. Additionally, most ATMs have their own withdrawal limits requiring multiple withdrawals for larger amounts - for example, EUR200 per transaction.
What are the rules that apply for ATM withdrawal requests?
ATM withdrawal requests follow the approval chain defined in your company’s spend policies. If no specific approval chain is set, the ATM withdrawal request can be approved by any Payhawk administrator.
Is there a maximum amount per day cardholders can spend on their cards?
Payhawk administrators can define the spending limits on cards either as part of the company's spend policies or as individual settings for the card.
Can I freeze a subscription payment from a card without blocking that card?
No. If you need better control over subscription payments, consider using dedicated subscription cards. You can create a separate single-use card for specific subscriptions which will allow you to manage or cancel those payments without affecting other transactions.
Can Payhawk cards be used to pay employee tax withholdings or monthly payroll‑related taxes to government authorities?
Yes, Payhawk cards can generally be used for payments to official tax authorities where Visa commercial cards are accepted. Payhawk has recorded successful transactions toward Spanish agencies such as Agencia Tributaria Estatal and Agencia Tributaria Catalunya, so no acceptance issues are expected.
Payhawk cards are Visa business cards compliant with local tax and regulatory standards in Spain, Germany, and the UK. However, acceptance of card payments may still depend on the specific government entity and its listed approved payment methods. Customers need to confirm with the tax authority before making monthly withholding or payroll tax payments using a Payhawk card.
