Error message

Failed to export into MS Business Central. You cannot assign new numbers from the number series. Please ensure automatic numbering is configured correctly in MS Business Central.

Affected ERP integrations

  • MS Business Central

Cause

This error can occur for all export types, including purchase invoices, payments, and journals, when MS Business Central is unable to assign a new number from the configured number series.

The most common reasons for this issue include:

  • The date range defined for the No. Series line has passed, which means that the series is no longer active for the current date.

  • The Ending No. in the number series has been reached, and no further numbers can be assigned from that series.

  • The Default Nos. setting on the number series is not enabled and prevents MS Business Central from automatically assigning numbers.

Solution

To resolve this issue:

  1. Check the number series line date range.

    1. Navigate to the relevant number series in MS Business Central.

    2. Verify that the date range of the number series line covers the current date. If it has expired, extend the date range to include the current period.

  2. Verify the ending number:

    1. Check if the Ending No. for the number series has been exhausted. If it has, either extend the Ending No., or create a new number series and update the relevant settings to use the new series.

  3. Enable Default Nos.:

    1. Ensure that the Default Nos. setting is enabled for the number series. This allows MS Business Central to automatically assign numbers from the series.

  4. Return to Payhawk and attempt to export the transaction again.
