Quick summary

Dust off your suitcase; it's time for some in-person networking. After two years of virtual events, SaaStr Europa is going to be live again and will be held in Barcelona from 7-8th June. We're thrilled to be the one and only unicorn sponsor of the event and share our insights on scaling up and expansion. What are you waiting for? 90% of the tickets are already sold out. SaaStr Europa is one of the biggest SaaS community events in Europe. It helps companies of all sizes network, learn, and discover insights to scale and grow their businesses. This year's SaaStr Europe event in Barcelona is expected to have more than 2,000 attendees, including more than 600 founders and many VCs and investors.

SaaStr began in 2012 as a simple WordPress blog. Then came their first meet-ups in 2014, the first SaaStr Annual in 2015, a podcast in 2016, the first coworking space in 2017, and then the first learning management system for SaaS CEOs in 2018.

At Payhawk, we decided to join the event as a unicorn sponsor in 2022 for several reasons. One reason is that SaaStr's goals strongly reflect ours. As the provider of scalable corporate cards and expense management software, we want to help companies automate manual tasks and focus on growth.

Here are five more reasons why we're attending — and why you should too:

1. Meet our customers in person

We have customers in more than 30 countries across Europe, and we're so happy that we'll meet some of them at the event. At Payhawk, customers are at the centre of the organisation. As Hristo Borisov, our CEO and Co-founder, says, at Payhawk, everyone wears two hats, their primary discipline and "customer success."

We use our clients' valuable feedback to improve our product, resolve issues, and innovate new features. We're nobody without our customers, and we continuously strive to improve their experience.

2. Learn about other SaaS tools that make the scaling-up process easier

One big difference between startups and scaleups is that the latter needs systems in place so they can grow rapidly in a sensible way. Whereas at a startup, processes are yet to be defined, people wear many hats, and the supporting tools are often suitable for your current place in the market.

As your company grows, you need quality and accuracy in all internal operations. And you need it to scale. At Payhawk, in the last couple of months, we've implemented several SaaS tools to streamline sales, outbound email, project management, content management, and product enablement.

Easy-to-use, integrated, and affordable SaaS tools have made growth a piece of cake, but you need to understand the differences. And explore which tools will be the most relevant at your stage. In a market projected to reach $145 billion in 2022, you can often get lost with all the different suppliers, so we're excited to talk to some people face to face and learn more.

3. Try to solve some of our scaling challenges

One of the things we love the most about events like SaaStr is that many of the sessions cover topics that match our actual challenges as a growing business. Lots of other companies have overcome some of the hurdles we face as a fast-growing business, and we can't wait to learn more about them.

Our own VP of Sales, Paul Albert, will be delivering a session too. Together with our Head of People Operations, Merita Ramadani, Paul will be covering Blitzscaling your sales team: How to keep up exponential growth post-unicorn status. The session will discuss how to build a network of partners, the core characteristics to look for in candidates, and what you need to set new team members up for success.

4. Talk to SaaS experts non-stop

Recently we participated in another event in Barcelona, the World Mobile Congress, and it was an incredible experience. However, we realised that as a B2B company, if you want to have meaningful conversations, you need to talk to the different decision-makers as well as your own targeted buyer personas. Not only to validate your product but also to learn what competitors are doing and see the journey of other companies with similar products.

As a SaaS tool in the expense management industry, we know a lot about our segment, but we are eager to learn more about other SaaS companies and how they solve business problems.

5. Share our unicorn journey experience

Finally, you don't always get to hear exciting stories from smaller, emerging markets. At Payhawk, we became the first Bulgarian unicorn in 2022, less than 12 months after our Series A.

If you're attending the event, you can hear all the details from our CEO and our VP of Marketing. The session will discuss the journey so far, including how we created the product, delivered proof of concept, and stayed laser-focused on customer success.

Finally, we also want to have some fun while in Barcelona. Payhawk will be hosting two happy hours at the event, and we'll have a booth where we share snacks, demos, and insights. So please stop by to say hi and learn how we can make your growth journey more straightforward with easy expense management and automated financial operations.
