Gijs Spaans, European Director

Gijs Spaans is the European director at LifeAID Beverage and his journey with them dates back to more than 7 years. Before actually moving on to the selling part of nutrition he had quite an extensive background in fitness which help him and LifeAID identify customer niches and build healthy relationships with their customers.

After high school, Gijs had a short military career as a professional soldier, and after that gradually transitioned into outdoor sports and then into sports and Crossfit. He started and owned a gym. At some point, he decided that he needed something more so he moved forward by opening his own Crossfit gym. The gym was operational during the mornings and evenings. To fill the void in the afternoon he wanted to open an online shop. That’s how he met LifeAID and it made perfect sense to provide the much-needed supplement side that was appealing to the end consumer.

Life without Payhawk

Before using Payhawk Gijs mentioned that he monitored his eCommerce performance by using accounting systems and appropriate metrics for the checks and balances. The two main costs are the product itself and shipping. When COVID struck these costs went down because 80% of their business was with gyms which closed temporarily.

Directly after the COVID-19 lockdown, they started expanding the business across the Netherlands, Italy, France, Germany, and the UK. As Gijs puts it:

“Tracking the sales executive and all their expenses is not something you want to do when you want to focus on the business.”

The Payhawk dream

Gijs found out about Payhawk through a Google search for expense tracking. The first thing that won him over was the intuitive and easy to use interface. Of course, with operations across different countries, he was looking for something mobile and straightforward. The main goal was to have a process that does not require a person to run after people and their expenses. When you add to this the ability to export all the expenses with the corresponding documents, you have the missing piece of pre-accounting.

User-friendly and easy to use

When we asked Gijs about the single best thing about Payhawk, without a doubt he pointed out the ease of use.

The streamlined process for attaching invoices to card expenses, especially when you spend daily, solves the problem of losing invoices or forgetting about invoices. Payhawk removes all the hassle with the snap of a photo, the moment you buy something.

Additionally, he likes that you can have allocated funds to the cards for every person. When you couple this with the fund request option, it’s very easy to limit spending and identify proper expenses.

Plans for the future
